For the last couple of months I’ve read the Swords of Sorrow event from Dynamite Entertainment. So far, its one of my favorite crossover events in years. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the event, here’s a little info:
Drawn from a dozen worlds and eras to face off against a legendary evil that threatens their homelands, Dynamite’s fiercest females must overcome their differences to harness the power of mystical blades — the eponymous Swords of Sorrow — in final conflict.
The crossover event brings together Dynamite’s roster of female characters, including the Red Sonja, Dejah Thoris, Vampirella, Kato, Jungle Girl, Lady Rawhide, Jennifer Blood and many, many more.
The event consists of the core Swords of Sorrow series by Gail Simone, and continues throughout with tie-in titles including the Swords of Sorrow: Vampirella / Jennifer Blood miniseries written by Nancy A. Collins (Vampirella, Swamp Thing); the Swords of Sorrow: Chaos special by Mairghread Scott (Transformers: Windblade); and the Swords of Sorrow: Masquerade / Kato special by G. Willow Wilson (Ms. Marvel) and Erica Schultz (M3), just to name a few.
It’s a great read, and its worth checking out if you haven’t done so already. Although this story is so big, this might be a good time to wait for the trade, or in this case, trades. As I’m sure there will be several books.
Anywho, when I started reading Swords of Sorrow a couple of months ago, I thought to myself: “This would make a good movie.”
But as the story unfolded before me, and the scope of it became clear, I realized it wold be a 4-6 hour movie. Well that won’t work, and with so many characters it would be impossible to do the series justice. So the next best thing would be a tv show, either on cable, or on Netflix or Amazon. So here I give you some of my dream cast for Swords of Sorrow: The TV Series.
For the time being I’m going to focus on Vampirella, Dejah Thoris, Red Sonja, and Jungle Girl. And I’m sure some of my choices you probably haven’t heard of. Got it? good! Now here we go:
Paola Rey as Vampirella
Paola Rey has starred in several Colombian soap operas over the years. This girl can play innocent and evil very well. And she looks good either way.
——————————————————————-
Christina Hendricks as Red Sonja
Maybe too perfect a choice, but why the hell not? We know she can act, and I think she can pull off the major action scenes that would be required of her.
——————————————————————-
Marjorie de Sousa as Jungle Girl.
Why Marjorie de Sousa?
Because as far as I’m concerned this latin actress is one of the hottest women in the world.
——————————————————————-
Janel Parrish as Dejah Thoris
While I thought Lynn Collins did a fine job as Dejah Thoris in 2012’s “John Carter,” most people don’t remember that movie fondly. So its time for a new actor in the role, and I pick Janel Parrish.
I don’t know what her acting ability is, but I’ll be damn if she doesn’t look like the Dejah in the comics, and that’s good enough for me.
I WANT A VAMPIRELLA TV SERIES!!! 😀
