If you need a weekend away from the multiplex, this is the weekend for you. Actually, if you need a whole month off, September is looking pretty good too. Nothing but clunkers as far as the eye can see.
Then again, you could do what I plan to do this weekend which is binge watch Netflix and Amazon, and maybe pick something up from Redbox. And of course.. watch football.
Anyways, Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” should wind up in first place again on what will be one the lowest-grossing weekends of the year. Guardians should earn around $10-$12 million over the next three days. If it holds on to first place, it will be Guardians fourth time at the top. The last movie to accomplish the now rare feat was “The Hunger Games” back in early 2012.
As for new flicks this weekend, the choices are limited: “The Identical” tells the story of twin brothers, separated at birth, who are both gifted with musical talents. “The Identical” stars Ray Liotta and Ashley Judd. From what I understand this is a faith-based film and its inspired by Elvis Presley or something.
Never heard of it? You’re not alone. marketing has been almost nonexistent and the reviews have been abysmal. As of Friday morning the film is at 3 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. Yes, you read right: 3 percent. “The Identical” is opening at 1,956 theaters and will be lucky to make $3 million.
