Out of all the movies out there that I think deserve a sequel, “Paul Blart: Mall Cop” was not on the list. But lo and behold, “”Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2” is here.
Granted, the first movie was a fairly decent hit. But Was I the only one who thought the first Paul Blart was more depressing than funny?
After six long years, Kevin James’ Paul Blart is back in action! This time out, James’ character takes his family to Las Vegas, but a mall cop is never off duty, and soon enough, Paul Blart is off on another adventure. “”Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2” is directed by Andy Fickman and co-produced by Adam Sandler’s Happy Madison, Mall Cop 2 co-stars Raini Rodriguez, Neal McConough and Shirley Knight.
Despite opening at 3,629 theaters, Mall Cop 2 will open well below the $39.2 million that the first Paul Blart earned over the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend in 2009, At best, the Sony sequel will open with around $20 million this weekend.
Hitting 2,739 theaters this weekend in Universal’s “Unfriended.” This is the latest collaboration between the movie studio and Jason Blum’s Blumhouse following the Purge franchise, “Ouija” and “The Boy Next Door.”
The movie unfolds completely over a teenager’s computer screen as she and her friends are stalked by an unseen figure seeking vengeance for a shaming video that led to another girl killing herself.
Quite frankly, I think a Tom from MySpace movie would be more terrifying. But that’s just me. Anyways, “Unfriended” won’t make it past $10 million this weekend.
Finally, there’s Disney’s nature documentary “Monkey Kingdom,” which is expected to gross around $5 million from 2,012 locations. The nature documentary film directed by Mark Linfield and Alastair Fothergill and narrated by Tina Fey.
The documentary is about a family of monkeys living in ancient ruins founded in the jungles of Polonnaruwa in Sri Lanka. And for the record: Moneys rule, people drool!
