Ahhh, Memorial Day weekend is here. You know what that means: Cookouts, adult beverages, Furiated visiting Disney World (again), sleeping in, and brand new movies!
As usual, this holiday weekend we have a couple of new movies to choose from. We have a George Clooney Disney movie, and a remake of a classic I don’t believe anyone asked for.
Yes, its another Disney-theme-park-attraction-turned-movie, but the studio has scored big before on Memorial Day with another theme-park-attraction-turned-movie. Back in 2007, “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End” brought in a record $139.8 million over the four-day period. But that was an established film franchise.
If you’re a movie geek, then you know “Tomorrowland” been shrouded in secrecy for a couple of years. Even now many people don’t know what this movie is all about.
But with the red-hot director of “The Incredibles,” and “Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, ” at the helm, Disney’s “Tomorrowland” should easily top the box office this holiday weekend. Plus the pure fact that it’s a Disney PG movie starring George Clooney basically guarantees a $45 million weekend,
“Tomorrowland” is directed by Brad Bird, and stars George Clooney, Britt Robertson, Hugh Laurie, and others.
It’s heeeere. The remake of the 1982 horror classic that I don’t think many people (if any) were asking for. The the all-new, all-different “Poltergeist” is directed by Gil Kenan, and stars Sam Rockwell, Rosemarie DeWitt, Jared Harris, and Jane Adams.
Anywho, most people are expecting the movie to flop, and I agree. I feel the new “Poltergeist” will barely make it into the top five with around $20 million.
