This weekend, geeks all over the world have their attention set on this year’s SDCC. So while that’s going on, its time has come for the lil ones to rule the box office.
To be fair, there are two new wide releases hitting theatres this weekend. But the Ryan Reynolds/Ben Kingsley drama, “Self/Less,” isn’t even expected to make the top five. And with 22 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, I can’t say I’m surprised.
Anywho, this weekend it’s all about those crazy little “Minions.” The yellow sidekick’s first solo film is pretty much guaranteed to take the top spot with a big number. Universal is aiming for a debut in the same ballpark as “Despicable Me 2” which opened to $83.5 million.
However, early tracking predicts that “Minions” will become the fourth animated film ever to crack $100 million. Whether it can match or beat Shrek the Third’s record of $121.6 million, remains to be seen. And in conclusion…
