Try as they might, the director/star tag team of Ron Howard and Chris Hemsworth just can’t seem to click with movie audiences.
Two years after the well-received “Rush,” (one of my favorite movies of 2013), bombed at the box office, the duo’s new project, “In the Heart of the Sea” never really made it to sea. The whale drama opened in second place with $11 million, giving “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2” its fourth straight weekend at number one with $11.3 million.
So what happened to Opie and company? Simply put: It was a bad idea to open one weekend before “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”
Everyone is so pumped up for Star Wars, that they could give a hoot what else is out there. Not to mention, that they’ve probably already spent a sizable chunk of their movie going money on Star Wars stuff.
Anywho, I still want to see “In the Heart of the Sea” at some point. I loved what Ron Howard and Chris Hemsworth did with “Rush,” and hopefully Heart of the Sea will be just as good.
