I miss living in Boston, I really do. Mostly because I miss seeing my friends on a regular basis. But, there are a few perks to living in the south:
1. I get to point and laugh when my Boston friends get slammed by a blizzard.
2. There are several food places down here that don’t operate in New England. Which reminds me, I haven’t been to Steak ‘n Shake this year.
3. Down here, you find flea markets and yard sales all year around.
That last one is one of my favorite perks. You never know what you’ll find at one of the many local flea markets or neighborhood yard and/or garage sales. Take yard sales for instance: I’ve seen everything from vintage guns, diapers, bricks, a collection of garden gnomes, and tires (for all sorts of things).
Now and then I’ve even come across a few comic books and other collectibles. But this past Saturday, I think I hit the jackpot. On my way home from seeing “Deadpool,” the wifey and I came across a “Moving Sale” not far from where we live. While she made her way to the furniture, I spotted some action figures and a couple of comic book boxes. Inside the first box I found:
Superior Spider-Man #1-27, Annuals #1-2
Superman #75, sealed in the black bag
Universe X Spidey special (the recalled issue)
The Brave and the Bold #175-192
Flash: Rebirth (complete set)
15 Power Girl issues
100 X-Men related issues
It should come as no surprise, I took the whole lot. And what, you may ask, was the total price for such goodies? $15.00. Seriously, all that for just fifteen bucks.
A bit later once we were home, the wifey told me the lady selling all the stuff told her that she and her husband were moving because their only son was now in college and thet didn’t need such a big place. And all those comics and action figures she was selling for pennies were all his, and he had no idea his mom was selling all this stuff.
Uh-oh, mamma’s gonna have some explaining to do when sonny gets home this spring.
