If there is one thing I’ve learned over the years, its that Oscar season is fluid. Things alwyas change, even in the last few hours. Those who seemed like sure bets a few weeks ago, may not even be a contender come Sunday night.
Even some my own predictions have changed since the nominations were announced in mid January. Like I said, Oscar season is fluid.
So now, it is time for my annual list of who I think will win, and who I think should win. For the sake of time I’m sticking to the major awards, and away we go…
“The Big Short”
“Bridge of Spies”
“Mad Max: Fury Road”
Who will win: Just a couple of weeks ago I would have bet money on “The Revenant,” but I have this feeling “Spotlight” will pull off the upset.
Who should win: In my opinion, “Mad Max: Fury Road” was the best film of last year, and a win here would give the Academy a boost with general movie audiences.
Who will win: Leonardo DiCaprio
Who should win: Leonardo DiCaprio
If Leo doesn’t win this year, then he never will.
Who will win: Brie Larson
Who should win: Brie Larson
I just don’t see an upset happening in this category.
Best Supporting Actress:
Jennifer Jason Leigh
Who will win: A few weeks ago this was Jennifer Jason Leigh’s to lose, but her movie (and her) lost steam along the way. So I wouldn’t be surprised to see Kate Winslet win her second Oscar, and we all know the Academy loves her.
Who should win: Rachel McAdams is probably a longshot, but I’d love to see her win here.
Best Supporting Actor:
Who will win: Sylvester Stallone
Who should win: Sylvester Stallone
The Academy loves old timers, and this will probably be Sly’s last shot at acting golden statue.
Alejandro G. Inirritu
Who will win: From “Anchorman” to Oscar winner, Adam McKay wins this puppy.
Who should win: If there’s any justice in Hollywood, George Miller win Best Director.
