Oh, what a night. Late November back in 2003. What a very special time for me
Not that I remember all, but what a night.
To be honest, I’m assuming it was a good night because I don’t remember exactly what went on. However, the next day I looked and acted like a zombie who had been out all night doing who knows what. That morning, I was completely out of it, even driving to work was a blur. As I walked to the front door I must have been thinking about something or someone because without giving it a second thought, I punched in the wrong alarm code.
Even though I had been for Video To Go for some time by this point, I punched in the code to my previous work. Worse yet, I didn’t realize I did it, so I went about my routine. Within a minute, the alarm went off, and both telephone lines were ringing. I couldn’t hear too well over the blaring alarm, but line one just wanted to know what time the porn room opened. The second line was the security company, checking if everything was okay.
I tried to explain everything was fine, but since I had answered the other line first, they had already dispatched the police to VTG. Within moments I could hear sirens, and then, I saw two police cruisers drive into the parking lot headed towards me. But that was just the beginning I’m afraid.
As I headed to the door to tell the officers that it was a false alarm, and everything was fine, an ambulance showed up. The police then explained they still had to come in to make sure everything was fine and that someone wasn’t making me say that to them. I was letting the officers in when all of a sudden, a K-9 unit showed up, and they too had to go into the store.
For the next several minutes, all the officers, and a German Shepard, searched VTG for any evil doers. In all the excitement, I had forgotten to call my boss Krysty. I also hadn’t heard the store phone or my cell going off when she tried to call me. The security company however, didn’t forget to call her. And soon enough, I saw this tall blonde running towards the store in pajamas and I think slippers.
Anywho, that was a crazy morning for me. But all these years later, I still wonder why the K-9 unit showed up. The ambulance I can understand, but the K-9 unit seemed like overkill to me.
