Believe it or not, the 92nd Academy Awards are nearly upon us. The ceremony takes place this Sunday night, February 9 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. As usual, the 2020 Oscars will celebrate the very best in the movie industry during the past year.
Below, I’ve taken my best guess at who’ll win big on Oscar night. To keep things as short as possible, I’m sticking to the main categories. I will tell you who will win, and who I think deserves to walk home with an Academy Award. So without further ado, here are my sure to be wrong Oscar predictions:
Best Picture 2020
“1917”
“Ford v Ferrari”
“The Irishman (dir”
“Jojo Rabbit”
“Joker”
“Little Women”
“Marriage Story”
“Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”
“Parasite”
“Ford v Ferrari”
“The Irishman (dir”
“Jojo Rabbit”
“Joker”
“Little Women”
“Marriage Story”
“Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”
“Parasite”
Who will win: “1917”
Who should win: “1917”
Who should win: “1917”
This award is going to “1917/” There’s a reason the film has all but swept award season this year: it’s the best film of 2019.

Who should win: Bong Joon Ho
I think the favorite for Best Director is Sam Mendes, which makes sense. However, Medes already has an award for Best Director, so I would not be surprised to see Bong Joon Ho walk away with the award.

Best Actor
Joaquin Phoenix, “Joker”
Antonio Banderas, “Pain and Glory”
Leonardo DiCaprio, “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”
Adam Driver, “Marriage Story”
Jonathan Pryce, “The Two Popes”

Who should win: Adam Driver
Considering Joaquin Phoenix has won every major award leading up to the Oscars, it would be a massive upset if he didn’t win Best Actor. But over the last 14 years or so, some of the favorites have walked away empty.
If that happens on Sunday night, then I think the award should go to Adam Drive for his superb work in “Marriage Story.” If you haven’t seen the movie, go check it out. This is the type of acting that will be studied in film schools for years to come.

Who should win: Scarlett Johansson
Don’t get me wrong, Renée Zellweger did a phenomenal job in “Judy.” But after seeing Scarlett Johansson’s work in “Marriage Story,” I think she deserves it more. I would even say this is Scarlett’s best work to date and should be acknowledged as such.

Best Supporting Actor
Brad Pitt, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
Tom Hanks, A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood
Anthony Hopkins, The Two Popes
Al Pacino, The Irishman
Joe Pesci, The Irishman

Who should win: Joe Pesci
I won’t be mad if Brad Pitt takes the Oscar, but it would be cool to see Joe Pesci win for “The Irishman.” If nothing else, it would be interesting to see if Pesci said more than five words in his acceptance speech.

Best Supporting Actress
Laura Dern, “Marriage Story”
Kathy Bates, “Richard Jewell”
Scarlett Johansson, “Jojo Rabbit”
Florence Pugh, “Little Women”

Laura Dern will finally get her Oscar to come Sunday night, and deservedly so. Dern was a scene-stealer in “Marriage story.” But if I had any say in the atter I’d give it to Margot Robbie simply because I love me some Margot Robbie.

The animated film is a mystery category for me because I haven’t seen any of the animated movies. But I know the Academy loves Disney, and since they snubbed “Frozen II: they will probably give the Oscar to “Toys Story 4.”
